Visualize and plan your career trajectory from current role to dream role — with AI-suggested milestones, role transitions, certifications, and goals on one interactive timeline.

Introducing the Career Timeline

Most career advice is point-in-time: "switch now," "learn this skill," "apply here." Real careers are sequenced. They build on prior decisions and unlock the next ones. The Career Timeline tool gives you a chronological canvas to plan that sequence — and an AI co-planner that drafts a realistic path from your current role to your target.

What it does

  • Generate a 1–15 year plan from your current role to your target role with one click.
  • Each AI-suggested milestone has a kind (education, role, certification, publication, milestone, goal, transition), a date range, a why, and the skills it unlocks.
  • Edit, reorder, mark items as done, or delete them. The timeline is yours to evolve.
  • Everything is saved to your private profile under RLS.

Why a timeline (and not just a roadmap)

A roadmap shows what you should learn. A timeline shows when and in what order. That distinction matters because:

  • Certifications expire and have prerequisites.
  • Some roles are stepping stones, not destinations.
  • Publications, conferences, and grants have fixed cycles.
By dating each item, you can see whether your plan is realistic — and whether it's front-loaded or back-loaded.

How to use it

1. Open /career-timeline.
2. Enter your current role, target role, horizon (years), and your current skills.
3. Click Generate timeline. The AI returns a chronological set of milestones.
4. Mark items as done as you achieve them. The timeline updates live.

This pairs naturally with the [Skill Adjacency Mapper](/skill-adjacency) (to discover where you could go) and the [Career Risk Assessor](/career-risk) (to stress-test the plan).
