Tests, translations, and credential evaluations are some of the most underestimated costs in an international application. Add them up and they often cost more than the flight.

A single IELTS sitting is around $250. TOEFL is similar. TestDaF in Germany about $210. Then you need sworn translations of your diploma, transcript, birth certificate — typically $25–$40 per page, and a normal undergraduate transcript runs 8–12 pages. APS certification for Germany (mandatory from Vietnam, China, India) is $250. WES evaluation for Canada/US is $230.

For a single applicant targeting two countries it is easy to spend $1500 on paperwork before paying a single university application fee.

How group buying works

1. Browse open groups — each deal shows the vendor, retail price, current price, how many people have joined, and the next discount tier.
2. Join — your card is not charged immediately. We hold your spot.
3. The group grows — as more applicants join, the price drops automatically for everyone, including people who joined earlier.
4. The window closes — on a fixed date, we close the group, charge cards at the final tier price, and email vouchers / codes / submission slots.

More joiners = lower price for everyone. No tricks. The vendor gives us volume pricing; we pass 100 percent of the saving back.

Credential evaluations

• APS Vietnam — retail $250. Tiers: 5+ at $220, 15+ at $190. Required for Germany applicants from Vietnam.
• WES ICAP (Canada/US) — retail $230. Tiers: 5+ at $210, 15+ at $190.

Refer and save more

Every group is a chicken-and-egg problem: cheap prices need joiners, joiners want cheap prices. The fastest way to unlock the top tier is to bring friends.

Your referral link gives you $10 BioPath credit for every friend who joins a deal, and gives them $5 off their first deal. There is no cap — if you bring 10 friends into the same TestDaF group, you have effectively gotten the test for free and pushed the whole group into the cheapest tier.

Referral credits stack with mentor sessions and other BioPath services, so they are useful even if you finish all your translations.

Why we built this

The original Lovable [Referrals](/referrals) feature was great for inviting friends to the platform, but it did not help with the actual money-burning steps of an international application. Group Deals attacks the hardest line items directly: tests and paperwork.

In the first weeks of testing, the average applicant who used at least one group deal saved $180 on the documents portion of their application — more than the cost of two mentor sessions.

Vendor questions

"Are these the same tests / translations universities accept?" Yes. We do not partner with anyone who is not the standard accepted provider in their category. IELTS via British Council, TOEFL via ETS, TestDaF via TestDaF Institut, WES via WES, APS via the official APS office.

"What if the group does not hit the discount threshold?" You pay the highest tier you actually unlocked. If only 3 people join an IELTS group with a 5-person threshold, you get a 5–10% discount over retail rather than the full 20%.

"What if I want to cancel before the group closes?" Free until 48 hours before the close date.
