Skill Adjacency Mapper: Find the Domains Your Current Skills Already Unlock

Your skills already unlock more domains than you think. The Skill Adjacency Mapper scores transferability, names the bridge skills you need, and surfaces concrete roles to target.

Skill Adjacency Mapper

The fastest career moves are usually adjacent, not radical. A wet-lab molecular biologist who learns a little Python is much closer to bio-AI than to becoming a software engineer. A regulatory specialist with NGS exposure is one step from CDx strategy.

The Skill Adjacency Mapper quantifies that intuition.

What it does

  • You enter your current skills (and optionally, your role and what intrigues you).
  • The AI returns a structured map: transferable skills (with transferability scores), adjacent domains (with fit scores), bridge skills needed for each domain, and example roles.
  • Each domain comes with a concrete first step you can take this week.
  • A node-and-edge adjacency graph is generated under the hood for future visualization.

Why this matters in life sciences

The boundaries between bench, bioinformatics, regulatory, clinical, MSL, and biotech-VC are more permeable than role titles suggest. The Mapper exposes those bridges so you can decide whether to widen, deepen, or pivot.

How to use it

1. Open /skill-adjacency.
2. Add at least 2 skills (comma-separated). More is better.
3. Click Map adjacent domains.
4. Save the result to your profile to feed future personalization.

Pair with the [Career Timeline](/career-timeline) to schedule the bridge skills, and the [Satisfaction Predictor](/career-satisfaction) to sanity-check that the adjacent role would actually fit you.
